Healthy Hot Chocolate

Hi everyone!

Today’s post is going to be a quickie but a goodie! 3pm rolled around yesterday and I wanted a snack, but didn’t really have anything ready.  I’d been seeing lots of warm drink recipes being posted by fellow nutritionists, and thought I’d try to create one myself, and have it as a nice afternoon snack!

I went with a simple hot chocolate recipe because more often than not, hot chocolate is full of icky ingredients.  Case in point below:

This healthy hot chocolate recipe has TONS of nutritional benefits to it.  First of all, the raw cacao is full of beneficial minerals, like magnesium.  I did a full post on the benefits of raw cacao here.  Coconut milk is a healthy source of good fat.  The type of fat in coconut milk is actually used by the body for quick energy instead of being stored as fat.  It’s also antibacterial and antimicrobial (as is coconut oil).  The sweetener used, maple syrup, is also a great source of trace the trace mineral, manganese, which is critical in energy production and the body using antioxidants.
