Watermelon Hangover Cure

Summer is soooo close!  We had a taste of it last weekend here in Toronto and that’s all it took for everyone to be out in sundresses, shorts and sandals to get their first tan of the season.

Tomorrow also happens to be the first big long weekend of the summer – MAY TWO FOUR!  Now, if you’re a typical Ontarian, you’re likely heading up to a cottage for the weekend.  Cottages tend to involve delicious food and one or two beverages, so when I saw this recipe on Mind Body Green, I wanted to make a HEAL version and share it with you for this weekend!

Before the recipe, in case you didn’t see it, here is my latest article on sugar published on Mind Body Green.  With all the sugar talk lately, I think these are some really useful tips on how to beat your sugar cravings!

Alright, back to this delicious drink.  I think it is a perfect afternoon refreshment and because of the ingredients, is also be a great hangover cure!  The mint is a natural herb that will settle your stomach, and the cucumber is incredibly hydrating, along with having ‘cooling’ properties, which according to Chinese Medicine, helps pull heat from the body and reduce any inflammation.

Here are a few tips about the recipe:

  • Kombucha is now available at a lot more grocery stores, and is definitely at your health food store.  To get the best colour for the drink, I’d buy a red/pink flavour of
  • I love Rise Kombucha, but for this recipe used Syngergy Kombucha as it was the only one there. It’s great too.
  • If you can’t find Kombucha, replace it with coconut water.
  • Lastly, if you want the colour to be extra vibrant,  you could add some more red fruit, like goji berries or raspberries, as it can end up being not quite as red as the picture above.
